History of Šivec House Gallery

The Šivec House Gallery has a long tradition of presenting and exhibiting illustrations and is the only such gallery and museum establishment in Slovenia that deals in this type of fine art systematically and professionally.

The gallery houses a valuable collection of illustrations for children and young people, which have been created by Slovenian illustrators. Collection of the works began in the 1970s.

Since 1976 the gallery has been housed in Šivec House, which was renovated in the 1970s under the professional guidance of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage from Kranj and in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana.
