Work on gathering the extensive collection of original illustrations began in the 1970s and today numbers 185 works by 53 Slovenian illustrators.

The illustrations and books on exhibit include: Najdihojca, Zvezdica Zaspanka, Enci benci na kamenci, Pestrna, Kdo je Vidku napravil srajčico, Modrost kralja Salomona, Palčica and numerous others. The oldest illustrations in the collection are those by Maksim Sedej from 1947, which were created for the book Detinstvo by Maksim Gorki.
